Norman is on course

Defending champion Magnus Norman of Sweden reached the third round of the Heineken Open tennis title by beating Brazil's Andre Sa 6-4, 6-2 in Shanghai.

The second and third seeds also progressed. No 2 Nicolas Lapentti of Ecuador beat George Bastl of Switzerland 6-3, 6-2.

Third seed Michael Chang downed fellow American Paul Goldstein 6-3, 6-4. Alex Calatrava of Spain beat Russia's Andrei Stoliarov 7-6, 7-6 while Chile's Nicolas Massu beat another Russian, Mikhail Youzhny, 7-6, 6-1.
